Blackboard Collaborate Ultra - Getting Started

Blackboard Collaborate Ultra is CloudDeakin's integrated online classroom for online learning, mentoring and meetings in a collaborative environment.

Supported Devices

Blackboard Collaborate is supported by all modern web browsers on desktop and mobile devices.

For the best and fully featured experience, Chrome is recommended for use.

Please note, Deakin University only support accessing Blackboard Collaborate Ultra through a web browser.
*The mobile apps which exist for this service are not developed or provided by Deakin University, and do not work in our Instance of Blackboard Ultra.
Please refer to the user guide "What should I do if I am prompted to "Join from a browser"?" for further information.

Joining a Session

Blackboard Collaborate Ultra sessions are scheduled and available from within the "Resources" area of CloudDeakin.

  1. Go to your unit site.
  2. Click on the Resources link on the navigation bar.
  3. Go to the module where the Bb Collaborate Ultra link is created.
  4. Click the name of the session and select Join session.

Participating in a Session

By default all students will join as Participants in the session. This allows you to view the presenters content and contribute to a text chat.
During a session students may be asked to participate either through the Chat, through Breakout Rooms or through Polls.

Students may also be elevated to a presenter to contribute to the whiteboard, upload files, share a document or share their devices screen. Instructors can grant and remove these extra permissions to students through out the session.

Accessing a recording

If a recording of the Bb Collaborate Ultra session was made, there will be available from the same Bb Collaborate Ultra link within CloudDeakin.

  1. Go to your unit site.
  2. Click on the Resources link on the navigation bar.
  3. Go to the module where the Bb Collaborate Ultra link is created.
  4. Click the Menu link located on the top left hand side and click on Recordings.
  5. Click on Show Recent Recordings and select Show Recordings In A Range to filter for recordings.
