Software has disappeared from the Software Centre, where did it go?

The Software Store is now the primary place for you to find and request software. Software that is available for request from the Store will no longer appear in the staff member’s Software Centre for installation unless it has first been requested and approved. No existing software will be removed from Deakin PCs by the Software Store implementation. If you cannot find the software that you’re looking for in the Software Centre, then please go to the Software Store and try to locate it. If you can’t find the software you are looking for in the Software Store, then please follow the instructions detailed at How do I request new software that is not in the Software Store?

How do I approve / reject a request?

To access your requests, go to the Software Store and in the top bar click Manage > My Tasks.

I have put in a request, but it didn't go to my manager. Who did it go to?

To view your request status please go to the Software Store > Manage > My Requests, or directly to https://sam.deakin.edu.au/#/myrequests.

If you do not have a manager set against your name in the global address book, then the request will go directly to the eSolutions Finance Team for managerial approval. They might contact you or your manager for further clarification.

How do I find the Software Centre?

The Software Centre can be found under the Start menu on your Deakin-managed Windows PC:

  • Windows 10 / Deakin Shield – Click on the Windows Menu, under the Letter "S" you should be able to find the "Software Centre".
  • Windows 7 – Open the Start Menu > All Programs > Software Centre

The Software Centre is the local software client that runs on your PC and allows for the installation of software that you’ve requested from the store (after it has been approved, if approval is required).

For more info, see Where can I download software at Deakin?

The Software Catalogue has now been replaced with the Software Centre which provides better functionality.

Who can access and use the store?

The store is available only to Deakin University Staff and HDR students, and is to be used only on their Deakin University Managed Windows PC's.

To request software on Student Lab Computers, Citrix Machines, Mac and other specific software packaging requests, please use the Software Request form.

I have received an email notification that the software is now ready to be installed yet the software isn't showing in the Software Centre. What do I do?

Once you are notified via email that your request has been processed, in most cases the software will be available in your Software Centre within 2 hours for download and installation. Certain software will be automatically deployed to your machine with a shortcut made available in your Start menu, within the same timeframe.

If the software takes more time to appear after you receive email notification, you can manually refresh the Software Centre yourself by doing the following:

  1. Close the Software Centre client if already open.
  2. Locate and open the Configuration Manager file - using Start > Run then paste the link C:\Windows\CCM\SMSCFGRC.cpl and click OK.
  3. Click on the Actions tab.
  4. Click on Software Inventory Cycle and then click Run Now. This shall result in a popup message. Click OK.
  5. Click Machine Policy and Retrieval & Evaluation Cycle and then click Run Now.
  6. The above should refresh the Software Centre fairly quickly.
  7. Open the Software Centre client and search for the software you’ve requested.
