Requesting a network file share

Most areas within Deakin will already have a file share setup for their use. Access to these file shares are managed by the data steward(s)(restricted access) within your area or division using the IAM web tool(restricted access).

The nominated data steward can grant permissions, create new spaces(folders) etc. within that areas file share.

example:

  • "\\cifs-f.its.deakin.edu.au\share-dlf" is Deakin Learning Futures network file share. So, in this case we know that DLF already have a file share setup for their area.
Perhaps you would like a new storage location(folder) within that file share, for example named "New Projects". The data steward(s) within DLF has control over this, and can create the new area and grant users access to it, which would look like this:

"\\cifs-f.its.deakin.edu.au\share-dlf\New Projects"

How do I find the data steward(s) for an existing share drive?

1. Login to the IAM shares summary page (staff access only).

2. Click on the icon next to the share to view the data stewards for that share drive.

If your area does not have a file share?

This needs to be discussed with the IT representative in your area, and if the file share is warranted, please contact eSolutions to have it created.
