How to watch live 'free-to-air' TV on your Deakin computer

Note: Live television streaming with VLC Media Player© is only available from a wired network connection to the Deakin network. It is not available wirelessly via the eduroam network.

Windows

  1. Launch VLC Media Player.

  2. In the View menu, select Playlist. You can use the keyboard shortcut, Ctrl + L.

  3. In the pane located at the left-hand side of the screen under Local Network, select Network Streams (SAP).
    Once selected, the stations should start to populate.

  4. Double-click the desired channel to start playback.

  5. To change channels, go back to the playlist and double-click a different channel.
    Tip: It is recommended changing  to List View to make it easier to switch between channels. To do this, click the View icon above the playlist, next to the Search field.

Mac OS X

  1. Launch VLC Media Player.

  2. In the Window menu, select Playlist.

  3. In the pane located at the left-hand side of the screen under Local Network, select Network Streams (SAP)
    Once selected, the stations should start to populate.

  4. Double-click the desired channel for playback to begin.

  5. To change channels, go back to the playlist and select a different channel.
