Information for Students working with an Academic Support Worker (ASW)

An Academic Support Worker (ASW) provides note taking for students in Lectures and Seminars. Their role is to provide clear and legible notes, taking into account the particular requirements of the student. Deakin University employs ASWs through the Disability Resource Centre (DRC) and the are subject to availability.

 

An ASW does not explain the content of academic work, provide verbatim transcripts of lectures, clarify information from academic staff, obtain additional information from academic staff, return books to the library, request extensions, provide attendant care support or assistance with transport.

The DRC may review the ASW service provided, if the student does not comply with the student responsibilities listed above.
