What is a Unique Student Identifier (USI)?

Your Unique Student Identifier (USI) is your individual education number for life with the Australian Government. From 2021 onwards, each new domestic student or international student residing in Australia during your studies will require a USI. If you do not provide your USI by the census date, your enrolment will be cancelled for your first Trimester/Semester. You will not be able to continue studying until the next Trimester/Semester.

If you are a continuing student, Deakin will contact you to let you know when you need a USI and how to provide it to Deakin.

If you don't have a USI, you can create one through the Australian Government site Get a USI. Make sure that when you create your USI, you record your name correctly so that when you verify it with Deakin, your details will match.

If you have changed your name you will need to update it with Deakin and through the Government to ensure the details still match.

If you are having difficulty verifying your USI, please visit the USI help page.
