What is a VPN (Virtual Private Network)?

Please note that it is not required to connect to the VPN when you are on campus. Connecting to the Deakin network via a wired connection or eduroam will provide you with secure access to the services you need.

What is a VPN (Virtual Private Network)?

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network and is a way of accessing internal Deakin IT services while ensuring that data is secure when it is being transmitted (e.g. your password, personal details, and/or other information). It cannot be intercepted and used by someone else.

Who should use VPN?

The VPN should be used only when accessing Deakin IT services which are not normally accessible from the Internet (Services such as Deakin email, Deakin Library databases and Deakin's public website can be accessed without the need for the VPN).

Click here for more information on services that require VPN access when you are off-campus.

What does it cost?

There are no additional charges relating to using the VPN itself, however, you still incur your normal ISP connection costs.
