Changing your Deakin password using a Deakin Mac

Each time you change your Deakin password, you will also need to update the password for the Deakin services you are using on your mobile device(s) (for example email, Wi-Fi). If you don't update your details, your account may be locked, as your mobile devices will continually try to use your old password. Please close Outlook prior to changing your password for the same reason.

If your Mac uses Jamf Connect

If you have a newer Mac (from late 2020 onwards) or your computer has been erased and rebuilt (re-imaged), you log into your Mac using Jamf Connect. This uses your Office 365 login credentials and Multi-Factor Authentication.

When you change your password, your computer will require your old password in order to unlock and update your Mac's password to your new one. You must remember or keep a note of your old password, otherwise you can be locked out of your computer.

When you change your password, it may take up to an hour to propagate fully through all of Deakin's systems.

After you change your password

When you change your password, it may take up to an hour to propagate fully through all of Deakin's systems.

Once your computer login password has been changed, you may need to update it in other locations as well.

  1. Many programs will simply prompt you to re-enter your password. e.g. Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft OneDrive.
If the app has a 'Remember this password' option, tick it to change the saved password.

  2. Alternatively, you can update passwords in the Keychain individually:

    • Open Finder. Click Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access.
    • In the left-hand panel, under Keychains, select login. Under Category, select Passwords.
You may also optionally change all your passwords through Keychain Access in your settings

    • In the top-right corner, search for 'deakin'. This will list all Deakin-related Keychain items.

You can locate Deakin passwords by searching for "Deakin"

    • Double-click on a Deakin-related application, for example: Network share drive.
    • Tick Show Password.
For example, using shared home drives with Deakin, you can replace your password keychain as demonstrated

    • At the next prompt, enter the new Password and click Allow.
Enter your new password, and click "Allow"

    • Now update the old password, then click Save Changes.

Ensure to click "Save Changes" when you update the new password

Repeat
step 7 until all Deakin-related passwords have been updated.
