How to connect to Eduroam on Android Devices - On Campus


If you have previously connected to Eduroam on an Android device (i.e an old phone) and have transferred all your apps to a new Android device, the transfer may have installed the old SecureW2 app on your new phone. You need to uninstall the SecureW2 app before following the instructions below.

To uninstall Apps from your Android device, please refer to the article here.

Android devices can vary, and may be different depending on the manufacturer of your device. This is a general guide only.
  1. Open Settings.

  2. Tap Wi-Fi > Deakin Setup.



  3. Once connected to Deakin Setup, open your preferred web browser and type 1.1.1.1 in the address bar, tap enter.
    You will then be re-directed to the Deakin University eduroam setup page.

    Please click Download, located beneath the Android logo.

    (On some devices a web browser may automatically open and direct you to the Eduroam setup page, therefore not requiring this step.)



  4. This will redirect you to download Secure W2 Join Now app, click on Install



  5. Once the download has completed, after the app is launched, required configuration will be downloaded and will prompt for Location permission, after a few seconds another pop up appears requesting permissions, allow while using the app.

                         

  6. After this, you will be redirected to enter Deakin Credentials, after entering credentials, click continue



  7. You will then see connecting screen for a few seconds, Click Next, once connected you will redirected to settings page

         

  8. After a few seconds you may see another connecting screen, allow the device to connect 

  9. Once connected, you will see a message advising you are now connected to Eduroam, click on Next



  10. Click on Done



  11. You should now be successfully connected to eduroam.
If you change your password anytime after this initial setup, you will receive an authentication error. You will need to update it within the eduroam configuration.

Tap Settings > Wi-Fi > eduroam. This should prompt you to connect.
Tap Connect to attempt a connection. The connection will fail, but you will be prompted to enter your new Deakin Password.

 

If you are having trouble connecting to eduroam by following the steps above please follow the instructions below to connect using eduroam.

If you are connecting to eduroam directly and running Android 11 and 12 release, don’t validate option is no longer available. 

If your device is running Android 10 and above please select use system certificate instead of Don’t validate option.

 

Connecting to Eduroam
  1. Select Wi-Fi and connect to eduroam.
  2. Select EAP method: PEAP
  3. Select Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPV2
  4. Domain: deakin.edu.au
  5. Enter Identity: "username@deakin.edu.au" or "username"
  6. Enter your password


Some users may experience unable to access the webpages even after connecting to eduroam, Please follow the steps below :

  1. Open Settings, search for DNS



  2. Open Private DNS, Select Automatic and Save

How to Connect to Eduroam on Android Devices - Off Campus

If you trying to connect to Eduroam from a different University, or unable to connect to Eduroam directly, please follow these steps;

  1. Turn on your Mobile Hotspot 

  2. Connect your Android Device to your Mobile Hotspot

  3. After connecting to your mobile hotspot, on your Android Device, navigate to the Deakin Setup page, here is the URL for manual search www.deakin.edu.au/deakinsetup

  4. You should now be presented with below. You can now continue to follow the steps for Connecting to Eduroam on Android Devices - On Campus


Having trouble connecting?

If you have previously connected to eduroam and are now having trouble reconnecting, you may need to remove the saved Eduroam settings and then reconfigure the connection.

  1. Open Settings

  2. Tap Wi-Fi > eduroam

  3. Select Forget

    Forget stored eduroam connection settings
